Talk to Me!
In a multi-media world, with so many other demands on their time and attention, parents may well be talking to their children less than ever before. In 2005-6 Sue Palmer ran a small project for the Basic Skills Agency aimed at raising parents' awareness of this issue, and looking for ways schools could help develop talk between parents and their children.
The results were
- the Talk to Me! Good Practice Guide, a report on the work of reception teachers in five schools around England and Wales
- a ‘whiteboard show’, also called Talk to Me! for use as a focus of discussion by parents, teachers and support staff
(this comes with a detailed handbook – BSA publication no. A2000)
