Writing across the curriculum in the 21st century
Sue’s major interest in education over thirty years has been the interface between language, literacy and learning across the curriculum, and how this has changed with the development of new technology.
Her ‘two horses before the cart’ model for cross-curricular writing provides a simple strategy for teachers of all age-ranges (foundation to early secondary) to cover:
- active learning of content
- productive talk for learning
- organization of ideas to aid learning
- familiarization with key written language structures
- talk for writing.
In this course, she explains the ‘two horses’ model and provides opportunities for reflection and discussion of
- the significance of ‘literate language’ in the 21st century
- the essential literacy skills needed by 21st century children.
